The
students will spend each morning this week taking the AIMS test. I know they
will do great! Because of testing, homework will not be assigned.
Language Arts: We will finish reading A
Wrinkle in Time this week. The students will work on their Utopia
advertisements as well as begin a picture book assignment with their literature
circle groups. Each child will be responsible for contributing a page for the
book, which, upon completion, will be a nice summary of the novel’s main
events.
Our
next novel will be The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the
Wardrobe. Your child should have this book at school on Monday of next
week.
History/Geography: The Civil War test will be
next Wednesday, so the students will work on the study guide this week. They will also
assemble their lapbooks, which will function as a great study tool!
Science: In science this week, the children will learn about genetics.
Miss Scheuch will teach this fascinating unit, which will occupy the next two
weeks. Listen for the names of famous scientists such as Mendel, Flemming, and
Crick, as well as content-related terms like, genes, genetics, trait, inherited, acquired, hereditary, instincts chromosome,
DNA, offspring,
chromatin, double helix, compounds,
proteins, chemical reactions, purebred, dominant, recessive, genotypes, phenotypes,
co-dominance, incomplete dominance, Punnet square, probability, likelihood, and genotypes. Stay
tuned!
