In Grammar this week, the students will take the
chapter 6 test to wrap up the last unit. We will begin chapter 7, focusing on
direct objects.
In Writing, we will continue working with the 6+1
Traits of Writing, particularly focusing on word choice and sentence fluency.
The students will continue writing and revising a narrative of their own.
The proverb the students will learn this week is, “mighty
oaks from little acorns grow”. I look forward to discussing the meaning of this
metaphoric saying with your children. As always, we will continue with our study
of word origins, reaching upwards of 70 Latin and Greek words!
History/ Geography: We are moving along in our
study of the Civil War! This week, the students will continue to learn about
the political differences between the North and the South, ask well as
understand how the Kansas-Nebraska Act impacted the expansion of the United
States. I particularly look forward to teaching the students about Abraham
Lincoln and the noble life he led before his Presidency. This two-day lesson
will follow nicely after having spent Monday recognizing our nation’s Presidents.
Science: The students did a fantastic
job on the Skeletal Systems test! Way to go, scholars! Test corrections and
parent signatures will be due on Monday of next week. This week, we will be
moving into our next body systems unit… the Muscular System! The children will
learn about various muscles and their functions. Please ask your child to
explain the origin of the word muscle and the classic Greek myth of Achilles! I
know the kids will have fun with this unit.
DON’T FORGET THAT SATURDAY, FEBRUARY
23RD IS OUR VOLUNTEER EVENT AT FMSC FROM 2:00-4:00!!! Please RSVP on
