In writing, we will continue learning about the traits
of good writing. This week, our focus will be on Voice and Word Choice. Ask
your child to share the creative writing assignment we are currently working
on; the students are responding to a prompt about waking up one morning to find
that they’ve turned into the school’s Principal! We are working on
understanding the traits and applying them to our own writing.
Chapter 6 of our current Grammar
unit is coming to an end this week. The students will take a test over it on
Wednesday. The proverb we will study this week is, “to fight fire with fire”.
We are moving forth with Latin and Greek, too.
History/Geography: We are moving forth with our
study of the Civil War! This week, we will further discuss slavery, and introduce
abolitionists and the Underground Railroad. The students will have prior
knowledge about these topics from the field trip we went on just a few weeks
ago! We will also learn about the differences between the North and South,
focusing on economic and political differences. We will end the week discussing
the Kansas-Nebraska Act and how it impacted the expansion of the U.S.
Science: Have you been hearing your
child talk about the different bones in the body, lately? Last week, we
finished learning about the function and location of the bones. This week, we
will cover the types of joints, as well as identify parts of the body that they
can be found. Listen for these terms at home this week: hinge joint, ball and socket joint, pivot joint, and gliding joint. The test over the skeletal
system will be on Friday.
