In Grammar, the students will be classifying and diagramming
increasingly complex sentences. In writing, the students will focus on using
rich transition words in their written work. We will continue moving forward in our Latin and Greek curriculum, as well as introduce another proverb, “time heals all wounds”. In Literature, the students will continue reading and discussing the witty and exciting book, The Phantom Tollbooth. The students will use classic fairy tales as mentor texts to practice the skill of identifying and describing characters as main, supporting, round, and flat. We will take a close look at how characters are developed in various pieces of literature. Has your child told you we will be making a lapbook to organize the literary elements we learn throughout this novel study? All of the folds will be kept in the "writing" file in their expandable folders.
History/Geography: We are continuing our study of the Golden Age this week. The
students will learn about the English Civil War and who King James I, Oliver
Cromwell, James II, the Cavaliers and Roundheads were. The students will understand the shift
of power during the war, as well as the effects of the bubonic plague. Ask your
child to share all that he/she is learning!
Science: We are beginning our next science unit this week! The
students will dive into their study of cells by first learning about Robert
Hooke and the role he played in the discovery of cells. The students will learn
about cell theory and the advancement of microscopes throughout history. Here is the timeline of microscopes and their inventors:
