Has your child recently received a pink Missing Homework slip? Although this may seem punitive, it certainly isn’t! Read below to find out why!
Missing Homework Slips…
- document that a student is missing an assignment, which ensures that it is recorded and thus, completed.
- ensure that the student, teacher and parent are aware of the missing assignment and can be in communication if necessary.
- give the students an opportunity to explain why they don’t have their homework, which allows them to take responsibility for the work. (This teaches the students that even if their reason is “excusable”, the task still needs to be completed and we are never actually “excused” from assignments and tasks that are assigned to us.)
- give the students an opportunity to create their own plan to complete the work. This teaches the children responsibility, time management, and organization.
- do not mean that your child is automatically deducted points for the assignment!
- are protocol for all missing assignments in the classroom. They are necessary (for all of the reasons stated above) even if other communication is had between the parent and teacher regarding the assignment.
